The hy-lo return stack heaters have been providing positive, practical protection against frost damage in thousands of orchards, groves and vineyards for nearly 85 years.

Specific instructions as to how to use these heaters vary according to size of acreage, location, wind drift, temperatures, topography, and crop type. From 35 to 60 heaters per acre is the general recommendation for most citrus and deciduous orchard crops, however, fewer heaters are required if they are used in conjunction with an Orchard-Rite wind machine to provide frost protection for larger blocks. In this application, from 12 to 15 HY-LO heaters per acre are used in a border arrangement around the wind machine with the heaters providing supplementary heat while at the same time the wind machine pulls warmer air down into the area and circulates the heated air throughout the block.
